Holy Land Ministries operates two schools: The Hebron Evangelical School and the Bethlehem Evangelical Academy. Both provide the critical thinking skills and a continuous learning mindset necessary for developing a successful livelihood and being a productive member of the community.

Ministry Focus

Holy Land Ministries exists to educate, and assist in other material and spiritual ways, people of need in the West Bank. Efforts focus on Muslims who have not been exposed to authentic Christians and the biblical message they live out every day, and Christians who desire to more fully understand the truth of the faith they profess.

For over 70 years in Hebron, and more recently in Bethlehem, Holy Land Ministries has sought to be a light in a dark world. We do this through excellence in education and striving to instill in each of our students a clear understanding of how much God loves them and has made them unique individuals- made to honor Him.

Brief History of Holy Land Ministries

  • 1948 - Ida and Ada Stoltzfus arrive in Hebron and begin helping the needy
  • 1950 - Orphanage established
  • 1954 - Hebron School established, first class has 13 boys
  • 1982 - Ron & J.J. Armstrong start Holy Land Ministries and accepts control of The Hebron School. Classes are for K through 6th grade. Enrollment grows to 300
  • 1999 - Gregg & Rawda Doolittle join Holy Land Ministries as School Directors
  • 2012 - Land is purchased in the Bethlehem area to build a second school
  • 2014 - Bethlehem Evangelical Academy opens for K3 through First grade

With simple roots as a small orphanage and then a school, Holy Land Ministries has been involved in ministering to children and families in Hebron for over 70 years. The Lord has also blessed us with a second school, in Bethlehem.

Both schools have a commitment to living out the Biblical message in the context of providing an excellent education. The Hebron School does this through all Arabic classes with a Palestinian curriculum. The Bethlehem Academy has a bi-lingual program (English/Arabic) based on American Christian curriculum.

The Hebron School

Our ministry was born out of the efforts of twin sisters Ida & Ada Stoltzfus, from Morgantown Pennsylvania. They spent 40 years of their lives ministering to the children and families of this challenging city. The school would become an integral part of the Hebron community, and serve as the foundation for our expansion into Bethlehem years later.

Bethlehem Academy

Through providential circumstances Holy Land Ministries was able to expand the ministry to include a new school in the Bethlehem area. Combining the vision of Gregg & Rawda Doolittle with the resources from a committed American donor, this school serves a local population of both Muslims and traditional Christians.

  • Target enrollment of approximately 700 boys and girls

  • Bi-Lingual curriculum (English & Arabic)
  • Preparation for the SAT & CLEP exam

Ziyad

Ziyad joined us in kindergarten, and was a normal, happy boy. His life got challenging though when his mother was diagnosed with some severe mental health issues, fighting a battle with anxiety and depression. Life at home became a challenge. She got the help she needed, but it was hard on Ziyad. Our teaching staff was aware of this situation and came along side to love and encourage him as much as they could. With their extra care and attention, he was able to cope successfully with this situation. Ziyad is now doing well and is actively developing a newfound love for art. He has also developed many close relationships with his classmates. (We understand his mother is doing much better as well.)

Hamza

Hamza dealt with a blow that is hard to imagine for many of us; his father was killed in a workplace accident. Rather than tell him the truth, his family told him that his father had gone abroad for a job opportunity. He is an inquisitive kid and it wasn’t long before he knew something was not right. After persistent questioning, his family finally told him the truth. The loss of his father, along with the deception, caused a downward spiral in his grades and behavior at school. The school administration along with the entire staff poured themselves into this young man’s life and he began to slowly recover from his loss. Hamza still misses his father every day, but with his friends and teachers encouragement he is beginning to find his smile again.

Joelle

This young lady has overcome many challenges in her young life, including her mother having been through the ordeal of fighting cancer. With that, and other family issues to deal with, Joelle often felt a bit adrift in school. She didn’t quite know where she fit in, struggled with grades, and had trouble finding friends. Early high school was hard. With the help of some kind teachers, and lots of hard work, Joelle found her stride as a junior. She discovered a love of art and literature, and excelled at both. She hopes to become an author someday, or be involved in the film industry. Joelle was one of Bethlehem Academy’s first graduates, and did very well taking her CLEP exams her senior year. She’s an excellent example of a student who left BEA with a great deal of hope for a productive and gratifying future in her post BEA years.
